The first generation of the Boxster appeared in a new look in 2002. It was recognizable from the outside by redesigned front and side air intakes, a modified rear spoiler, and indicator lights with quartz-grey covers. The closed canvas top sloped steeper to the rear, improving airflow to the automatically retractable spoiler. In the cockpit, a 5.8-inch screen served as an easy-to-use communications centre. Thanks to a new Motronic, the Boxster S put out an extra eight horsepower and completed the sprint from zero to 100 km/h two-tenths of a second faster.
