Designed for the newly introduced Group B motor racing category, the 959 is built as a technology demonstrator in an exclusive series of 292 units, based on the 911. Its 2.8-litre biturbo is closely related to the engine that made the 956 a serial winner. Other new additions are an electronically controlled all-wheel drive combined with ABS, four pre-selectable shock absorber programmes and a speed-dependent self-levelling function. Despite ist price tag of DM 420,000, the 959 is quickly sold out.
